Hi! My name is Yixin and I am a rising junior from The Woodlands, Texas. I am beyond grateful and honored to be the communications officer for the team this year. Although I am somewhat new to Project Green Schools, I have learned so much from the meetings I have attended and am excited to help teach and inspire other students, just as the previous officer team has been able to inspire me. I serve as the social director at my school’s sustainability club, and work with other officers to plan events and help members get involved in taking action for the climate, such partnering with several organizations to create volunteering opportunities. Additionally, I have led several initiatives in my community to help teach more students about the threats we face due to climate change, such as creating an environmental sustainability workshop as part of a local educational nonprofit organization. My team and I create short curriculums and educate elementary and middle school students about various types of pollution and carbon footprints as we plant fresh produce and herbs. I have also lobbied with my local representative to push for the carbon tax bill and have been a part of the Student Conservation Association’s virtual capstone program, where I was able to learn more about the planet and create a capstone project to combat food waste. Working alongside the other officers, my goal as communications officer this year is to be able to keep students engaged through social media and hopefully use our accounts to further spread the word of Project Green Schools and what we strive for. I am excited to be a part of this team and cannot wait to see what this year will bring!
