Amari Sims resides in the Bay Area, California. He is currently in the ninth grade.
Amari is serving his second year as the News Editor for the National Youth Council. He is in charge of recording meeting minutes, composing monthly newsletters for National Youth Council members, and monitoring external opportunities to be featured in the newsletter. Written communication is powerful, and Amari is excited to use the power of words to encourage and motivate others to care for the environment and take action.
Amari has a deep-rooted commitment to environmental stewardship. He is an active Scout with the rank of Life. As a Scout, Amari understands the significance of conservation and safeguarding our environment. Two years ago, Amari took on the responsibility of adopting a park that has a creek. He and his sister perform park clean-ups every two weeks, taking away around four or five bags of litter. Amari joins efforts to plant trees in his community. In addition, he has met with his city council members and mayor to advocate for environmental initiatives.
Amari is thrilled to be a member of the Leadership Team. This is in line with his ultimate aim to create a substantial change in the environment through service. The impact of environmental issues and climate change on communities of color has been significant. Amari considers it a privilege to be part of Project Green Schools’ Leadership Team. Last year, he served as a Co-Lead for the National Youth Council Energy Committee, and Amari looks forward to continuing to collaborate with the Leadership Team and National Youth Council members.
