Hello, I’m Dani Mendell! I’m a senior at North Oconee High School in Watkinsville, Georgia and I’ve been a member of the Project Green Schools National Youth Council for the past three years. I am excited to serve as Co-President of the Council this year. I am passionate about working together with people of all abilities to help the environment. I believe that everyone should be included in protecting our planet, and that together we can make a positive difference. In 2020, I started the North Oconee EcoClub at my high school. I wrote and received a grant to fund an EcoClub program I started called Hydroponic Heroes, where club members work with special education students at North Oconee to grow and maintain a hydroponic garden. So far, we’ve grown baby tomatoes, jalapeños, sweet peppers, butterhead lettuce, arugula, thyme, and mint! I also started a farm-to-table event at my high school for members of the community to gather together, learn about sustainability, and share food from the school gardens. As a result of my work, I received a 2023 PGS Green Difference Award for exemplary environmental leadership.

I am looking forward to working with and learning from other PGS Youth Council members this year!
