Emily Riordan, a junior at Newton North High School, has enjoyed working with PGS’ Youth Council this past year and is excited to take on the role of Vice President.
Emily is interested in environmental policy and has worked with her state legislators as well as 4 organizations on bills to increase access to housing for individuals who’ve been displaced by factors including extreme weather and natural disasters. By speaking at 15+ churches and community centers throughout New England, leading community workshops, and organizing youth civics programs, Emily has raised over $7,000 for the cause. Additionally, she has launched a Housing Crisis Committee to engage 7 youth groups statewide. At her high school, Emily is President of the Women in STEM and STEMentors clubs, where she organizes events and pairs over 100 under-resourced elementary and middle school students with high school tutors.
As Vice President of Project Green Schools’ National Youth Council, Emily hopes to advance student-led environmental initiatives, encourage collaboration between youth and policymakers, and empower the next generation of changemakers through education, advocacy, and action.
