Hamzah Dweik is a
former Project Green Schools Student Co-President and Student Ambassador (2014). Attending the University of Massachusetts, Amherst for his undergraduate studies, Hamzah graduated with a bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering and a Biochemical concentration.
As a Chemical Engineering major at UMass Amherst, Hamzah’s first Internship experience was in the field of electrochemical research and development at Giner Inc. where he worked on developing a bacteriophage-based antimicrobial coating for military fabrics that would selectively target and kill important skin bacteria. Shortly after graduation, Hamzah started his career at Bristol Myers Squibb, a global biopharmaceutical company whose mission is to discover, develop and deliver innovative medicines that help patients prevail over serious diseases. At BMS Hamzah worked as a manufacturer of prescription biologics in multiple therapeutic areas, including cancer, cardiovascular disease, and rheumatoid arthritis.
Currently working as, a production engineer at Pfizer Hamzah supports the large scale commercial and clinical manufacturing of numerous pharmaceutical products and vaccines. Working cross-functionally in high paced environments Hamzah regularly comes up with instantaneous fixes to obstacles impeding the manufacturing process of several diverse therapies. As a passionate engineer, Hamzah works towards becoming a leader in the worldwide effort to advance human health through engineering.
Hamzah’s work for Project Green Schools started early on joining the program as a student in high school. Establishing a strong presence to raise awareness of critical environmental issues Hamzah received a Citation from the House of Representatives in Recognition as Green Schools Ambassador for his earlier work with the program and he looks forward to continued service as an advisor.
