Jim Cohen is a partner at the law firm Verrill Dana, LLP. As a lawyer, mediator and lobbyist, Jim focuses his practice on energy, telecommunications, banking and transportation law, as well as public water, municipal law, substance abuse treatment and procurement. He is a former city councilor and mayor in Portland, ME, where he started the Sustainable Portland Task Force and helped start the Creative Portland Corporation. He is a former board chair of the Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce, and he currently serves on the boards of the Maine State Chamber and Portland Community Chamber of Commerce. Jim is a former president of Portland Trails, an urban land trust; chaired a task force that led to the formation of the Portland Education Foundation; and is a past winner of the Ruth Shaper Award from the Maine Public Health Association.
