Maanit Goel is a high school junior from Sammamish, Washington. This is his third year on the Project Green Schools’ National Youth Council, last year serving as Outreach Coordinator on the Leadership Team. Through his work with PGS, he has served as a sustainability consultant with UAE-based plant-based milk brand Koita, represented the organization on multiple national and international panels, toured Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle with PGS Director Robin Buchanan to observe sustainability measures, and was recently invited to the 2022 President’s Environmental Youth Awards Ceremony in Washington D.C. Outside of Project Green Schools, Maanit serves on the EarthEcho International Youth Leadership Council, has met with NOAA Director Dr. Rick Spinrad to discuss ocean policy, lobbied Congressional officials from multiple states to uphold and expand ocean protections, and hosted the first ever youth town hall with high-ranking NOAA officials. In the Pacific Northwest, he directs the Washington Youth Ocean & River Conservation Alliance (WYORCA), through which he has educated hundreds of students in Western Washington about the effects of the Lower Snake River dams on Northwest ecosystems, obtained over 500 signatures on an original letter to Senator Murray and Senator Cantwell advocating dam removal, and co-organized banner drops, rallies, and summits across the state. As co-president of the National Youth Council, Maanit intends to expand PGS member opportunities and bolster Council integration with Green School chapters across the United States.
