Madhavibala Mohanakrishnan is a senior at Ridge High School, New Jersey, and uses her creativity and leadership skills to make an environmental impact. An avid artist for much of her life, she’s used old materials to create puppet shows, kites, and room decor. She uses this creative upcycling in her youth-led organization GreenWaySquad, where she runs sustainable art workshops for 4,400+ youth. The group has created and disseminated an eco-art guide, which has reached 819,000+ educators through the networks of many educational organizations. Madhavibala also empowers other youth to impact others in their own lives. As Co-President of Youth Creating Change, based in Montgomery County, Maryland, she runs a selective youth fellowship for 30 youth, providing them with funding, mentorship, and networks to run their own social change projects. As Policy Coordinator of Project Green Schools, she hopes to encourage more youth to help the environment by providing them with ways to advocate as well as informing them of current environmental news.
