STRAWS,” is a new 30 minute documentary film that’s inspiring action around the globe on the hottest single-use plastic topic and its harm to marine animals.  Academy-award winning actor Tim Robbins, charts the history of straws and throughout the documentary, marine researchers, citizen activists and business owners discuss how it’s possible to make a sea of change through use of sustainable alternatives to plastic straws.

Booklist says, the film is “Thought-provoking…This inspiring program raises important environmental issues and reinforces the positive effects of grassroots advocacy.”

With colorful straw history animation narrated by Oscar winner Tim Robbins, STRAWS (33 minutes)leaves audiences with a clear understanding of the problems caused by plastic pollution and empowers individuals to be part of the solution.   It’s estimated every day 500,000,000+ plastic straws are used once and tossed in the U.S. alone. Ocean Conservancy ranks straws as the #5 most found litter item on beaches. They’re non-recyclable, so they wind up in landfills, litter streets and add to the estimated 8.5 million metric tons of plastic debris in oceans annually.

The educational version of STRAWS comes with a comprehensive educational discussion guide, plastic straw FAQS, printable posters and postcards, and much more.

Our partner Plastic Pollution Coalition provides free plastic pollution curriculum and lesson plans from many sources including PBS, NOAA, Algalita, California Coastal commission, and many more.
